Big news!

Talk about boffer construction, fighting, ideas, etc.

Big news!

I used to put a lot of effort into my boffering site, but I've been quite lazy with it for some time now. Rather than let the site continue to rot, I've decided to turn the site over to you guys with the all new BofferWiki.

http://www.thealmightyguru.com/Boffer/Wiki

I've given it a simple shell, and I will continue to update it at my leisure, but I hope that you all will help me make it into something we can all be proud of.

If you're not familiar with how to update Wikis, first, create an account on it, and then try editing a page. You'll find that you can learn a lot about it by looking at what other people have done.

My only real rule for the site is that you remember that there is no "right" way to boffer or to make boffers. Many people use many different techniques. It's better to say that your way is one of the ways, not the only way.

Brilliant! Now hopefully someone will update it with a new padding idea since the pool noodles this year have significantly smaller holes. O.o

I've seen giant pool noodle and regular sized pool noodle, with the giant sized taking (I think) 3/4 inch PVC and the smaller stuff taking half inch PVC. My basic longsword is based on the half inch pool noodle holed stuff.

Are you not able to add new pages? When you click on a red link, it should take you to a new page. Does this not happen?

yes, but this limits our creative capabilities to the number of existing links you give us.
...I think...I don't actually have any wiki experience...
in fact...a quick link to a 'how to wiki' for us lazies would be nice...

Ohhh, I see- you're not sure how to make a new page and link to it! It's actually similar to where TheAlmightyGuru is linking to pages that don't exist yet- you just put in your own keyword there and when done editing that page you click on the link that page creates, and go from there.

ok, so you make links to pages that don't exist yet so that you can create the pages they would link to?
I need to learn how to love paradoxes...

Yeah, the Wiki basics are a little odd.

The best way to learn is to go to an existing page, and click the "edit" button at the top. This will show you the Wiki code. Wiki code is similar to HTML, but a lost simpler.

Links are made by putting a keyword in [[double brackets]]. If you want to make a new page, do what DoomRater said, just put a keyword in double brackets, save the page, and then click the keyword. This will take you to the new page where you can write a new entry.

alright.

is it ok if we make a "page of links" for heavy construction purposes? as in a page that is there only to to support and organize a large number of pages under construction/currently unwritten, and not ready to join the active wiki?

Something like that already exists in the Wiki engine. If you click on the special pages link in the lower left corner you'll see a link to "special pages". This will give you a long list of various pages for looking through the data. "Wanted pages" will show you all the pages that are linked to, but have not yet been created. "Short pages" will show you the pages that still need additions.

Well now, I have something I can do when I'm in a boffer mood but can't build or fight.
