boffer scythe?

boffer scythe?

Postby xanderdamage on Sun Jun 15, 2008 6:09 pm

yeah... i wanna make a boffer scythe, it'd be totally badass and my people will allow it, the only thing is...HOW THE HELL AM I GONNA MAKE A FREAKING SCYTHE?!?!? Please help a boffer newb out.

i figure 6' long, with a 2' 6" to 3' blade part, with the blade having open cell running down the length, the rest being blue foam. and the top third of the shaft having incidental pvc insulation for obvious reasons.

am i missing anything?

Image

the entire head is open celled foam cut with an electric knife. the pipe goes up about 4"-6" for sturdiness.

I made a scythe with a 5 foot peice of pvc. Don't have a picture for you though. I used about 2 or so feet of blade, threw it over a grill to heat up the entire length i was bending and curved the pvc itself over the radiant heat. Once the pvc was in the shape of the scythe i just threw some pool noodle over the blade and down enough of the haft that it was ok. then pipe insulation to make the rest of the haft. It shouldn't hit to hard, but you should put 6 or so inches of pool noodle on the end that doesn't have core to prevent the pvc from pushing through and stabbing people. Which is a mistake I learned the hard way.

somehow everyone dreams about making a scythe for some reason...
i made one mostly on accident once...it wasn't very good and it has been dead for a while.

i made one as well, http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.c ... ID=3295391
I think it turned out pretty well. i had some trouble from it breaking, as it has joints, but i dual cored it n it worked great.

thickness? umm, i think it was half inch. I think it will depend on how much abuse you put the thing through before it does break. I know mine works well to catch legs and go around sheilds, obviously, but i'm careful about how hard i pull when i get around something or someone because i'm not sure how long it will remain durable.

Well, I'm new here, but my idea is basically a 6' shaft, with a 4' blade, connected by a 90* connector. the blade will be heat-bent, and will be cushioned by a chopped up pool noodle. The shaft is, as of yet, unpadded, except for the butt/pommel end.

to kaiten... if it already hasn't done so, I take it your sythe's been broken, no?

connecters are really a bad idea unless you do really light LARP style combat.
