classic music?

Talk about anything related to videogame soundtracks.

BTW, it's probably a safe bet that David Wise did the music for Marble Madness. He was Rare's only music composer from 1985-1994 and that game was made in that time period.

Glass Joe's theme is La Marseillaise, the French National Anthem.

She's right. I remember hearing that tune in a parody song by Allan Sherman called "You Went the Wrong Way Old King Louis", which I highly recommend. Anyway, his parody was done to the same song "La Marseillaise" which is actually how I recognized the song--not from actually knowing France's anthem.

You can download a copy here: http://www.navyband.navy.mil/anthems/ANTHEMS/France.mp3.

As for the Pipe Dream tune... I'm stumped! If it is from classical music it is a very short excerpt!

Yes, I managed to hear a slight piece on a Tom and Jerry episode which matched the Pipe Dream section, so I thought it might be something recognizable.

The unlicensed NES game "Pyramid" also has a famous song for its main theme, but I don't know what it's called. It was used on The Simpsons with the added lyrics, "There's a place in France where the naked ladies dance", and it's also used in the part of "Instanbul (Not Constantinople)" by They Might Be Giants for the line, "Even old New York, was once New Amsterdam", but I don't think either were the original lyrics for that tune.

Ah yes, I know what you're talking about. That song is a staple of childhood males everywhere. I haven't a clue the name of the song though!

I updated the Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! page with the latest composers you've figured out.

I've got one more: I knew that I've heard Soda Popinski's theme before and a little research reveals it to be "The Volga Boatmen Song" by Mily Balakirev.

I actually figured out one place I heard it before was as the Game Over music on the Atari 2600 game, Squeeze Box.

I think the 1812 Overture would fit well.

Not sure whether I should resurrect such an old topic, but the Commander Keen song "Quantum Explosion Dynamo" is the song "Mars, the Bringer of War," which is from the first movement of The Planets suite by Gustav Holst (short clip in .ogg format.)
