I'm currently working as a sweatshop worker in the Double Happiness Virtual Factory. I must say, it's a lot more fun than most other jobs I've had in my life, and while the pay isn't great I'm also getting a plot of land because of being a regular worker at the plant. This opens up the opportunity for me to drop an XstreetSL box and sell things through XStreet, once I have things to sell! Since selling things on Xstreet only requires me to have a plot of land for 24/7 access, and the ability to host one single prim, it's definitely not bad.
The statement Jeff Crouse is trying to make though is as interesting as the factory's laid-back environment: exactly how will real life commodities and virtual commodities merge? What kind of direction will it go? Is this the end of government controlled wages?
In my mind, there's no question that the workers of the factory aren't even really required for the factory to work. Once a customer enters the information into a kiosk, the printer would be more than able to print the order and have a single, solitary person cut and assemble the jeans... or possibly skip the worker altogether and have REAL robots cut and assemble the pants. The idea of hiring a worker to do the job makes it more personal.
The final thing I'm wondering though... how does he have the capital for an SL sim plus lindens to pay the workers?
