Elda's armory

Postby elda kano on Mon Feb 18, 2008 8:08 pm

I think it's really cool that everyone's posting pics of their weapons. So since I have around 25 boffers I'll share pics of my arsenal too. Then after that I have plans to create two replica boffers. First the Witch King of Angmar's mace, and after that Hadhafang using a fiberglass rod camping mat, and pipe insulation. So I have alot of work ahead of me.

Pics coming soon.

interestingly enough, i was actually planning on making a hadhalfang replica in the near future, too. i was just figuring on doing it with 1/2" CPVC, so i could bend the ends a bit.

mine's actually a custom work for a friend, who dislikes the heavy weight of most of the other weapons we normally have available.

out of curiosity, what would a standard single-handed boffer weigh? or a two-hander for that matter?

the average weight really fluctuates on a few things. and to be honest, some of the smithies involved in our group are fans of the 'most gigantic weapons possible' theory. in this case, lots of things fall into categories of greatswords and warhammers. the weight isn't terrible, it's usually just not well balanced.

the main issue here is the friend is a smaller female, and has difficulty wielding larger weapons. especially against most of the larger guys that make up the rest of the group.

i've completely avoided a question... oops. average weight for some of these guys' stuff? probably around 6-12 lbs. and i think one sword was near 15 lbs. before it was reformatted.

Ok...so I've run into a problem with the Witch King of Angmar's mace, the actual chain on his mace is a bit long. Any idea's on this. The reason I'm concerned is because I don't want to choke anyone with it.

Pics of my weapons soon, I've been really busy.

i would suggest adding "dingleberries" to the chain, it won't look quite as good, but it won't wrap tight enough to strangle someone, just google on how to build a flail, and it should show how to make them

So tell me what you think and stay tuned for pics of my costume ,my shields, and my 7 ft. staff.

note: construction of the Witch King of Angmar's mace is underway and should be done in a few days. And on a side note while I was typing this I got an idea for making Gandalf's white wizard staff, and while I was typing that I thought heck...why not make Saurman's too!!!

Are the throwing knives weighted? I see a rectangle in the end under the tape that makes me think it is. I could be mistaken. It could be a magnet or something like that to keep it on a bandoleer or something (which would be a cool idea)
