Larping in Oregon?

Postby Malificus on Mon Aug 25, 2008 5:33 pm

I am active in the SCA, but dont do a lot of LARPING(except with 5 other friends) anyway, I consider myself a pretty good fighter, and am looking for large larping groups in Oregon. preferably ones that DO NOT USE MAGIC!! :x

The only ones that I am familiar with use "magic" which I also find annoying. I think there is a pirate themed group around. I am not sure if they do or not, but I would think they wouldn't. I have fighter practice tonight, and one of the guys I practice with is in that group. I'll ask him for you.

We do have a big event in Astoria next week Sept 4,5,6&7th called Pacwar. Entry for the week is $25 or $10/day. It will be at the Fort Stephens KOA. If you haven't played with Amtgard before, you can sign in as a Raider, where most magic doesn't affect you, you can't wear armour, can use swords and daggers and shields. your equipment would be indestructible, and you would have an automatic 2 points of invulnerability.
We are expecting people from Montana, Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. All are welcome. There will be tournaments, battles, feasts, and general merriment.
weather providing, I will be seting up my photo studio and taking character portraits.
If asked what holding you are from, just say you are a guest of Iron Keep (place, not person).

Garb is encouraged, but not required if you are new. The garb for a Raider is black and white sash or headband. I can provide the simple garb for you if you are planning to come.

Boffing in Salem, Oregon

Postby Ganso on Mon Nov 03, 2008 6:09 pm

I play boffer with the NW Boffer League in Salem, Oregon. We meet from noon to 5:00 every Sunday at Woodmansee Park. If you happen to be in the area, its free, and open to anyone over 13 (minors need parents permission). We have lots of extra boffers.

We are currently only in Salem, but we are well organized. We have been playing for about a year. We sort of formed from what was left of the Salem chapter of SCP. Since Amtgard here in Salem meets on Saturday, a lot of their players come and play with us on Sunday.

Unlike Amtgard we don't use magic very much. We don't have magic users, or any class, for that matter. A player is a necromancer in "Zombies" and we have healers when playing "Healer". We sometimes use magic or fantasy based game features, such as spawning points, resurrection, healing, etc. depending on the game.

We try to stay away from spells and timed features in our games, so that we can focus on the combat, but we can if the majority of the combatants vote to have it. It hasn't happened yet.

We don't do much LARP, except what is built into the games. Players can dress up or not. Armor doesn't count, but you can wear it as long as it doesn't damage weapons or keeps you from noticing hits. We play full speed, but any touch counts, so we try not to hit each other very hard. A soft but firm grip is encouraged.

Our rules are designed to create a safe and fair environment to play boffer combat games. We play games like Ditch, Ring the Bell, and Goblin Rugby. Each game, and weapon restrictions for the game, and team captains are voted on by the players that are present at the time.

For more info, go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NWBofferLeague/ and sign up. Feel free to ask questions.

Hi, I'm in Eugene, and definitely interested in some boffing. My college on the east coast has a group, though it was at most 15 people, and we didn't use classes/magic/armor. I'd love to get some practice in over the summer. Also, I need to build myself some good longswords, as I'm florentine. Anyone down for boffing, construction, or maybe a little leather armor experimentation, i would definitely go for it.

southern oregon boffing

Postby leburtski on Fri Sep 11, 2009 4:35 pm

i'm with a small group in ashland that meets in lithia park on saturdays at 1pm. we are smaller and don't larp, although there is some of that around, mostly at the university. we are always glad to welcome people interested in playing with us, so if you're in the area, look us up. you can also find us on the web at www.ashlandboffing.com. the website is going through some construction, but still works. we're currently codifying our rules and we are setting up a construction guide, complete with 8 x 10 glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one. . .
