I used pool noodle for my flail heads. I suppose one could make that even softer by affixing sponges over the outside.
Working on a tower shield, just gotta make the center handle (comes with ambidextrous strap and handle of the usual type, but will also have a center punch handle) and add tarp for the cover.

I have lots and lots of boffers. I make aat least one new one every month or so in order to try and improve the designs I use and I've been fighting for around three years now. I can't tell you exactly how many I have as most of them are currently living at a friends where I normally go to boffer but I have at least seven here

I currently have 2 two-handed swords, 1 normal sword, 1 hammerhead sword, 2 shortswords, 2 daggers, 1 throwing knife, 1 double-bladed axe, 1 hand axe, 1 naginata, and a couple throwing stars.
Weapons I plan on making in the near future are a warhammer, a scythe, a scimitar, a flail, and some arrows (already have the bow).

I have enough "sets" for 20 people and that comes to about 26 weapons but they are not legal anywhere but amongst me and my friends because the only places around us that do any kind of fighting only use the ultra light stuff, and they have too many rules for our style.

I'm going to add six more basic longswords (remember the chrome blade with white handle ones? Six more of those) to my armory pretty soon. I'm also probably going to build some Kunai from the one foot of material I have left... but now that I've seen PEX piping I may want to experiment with that for small throwing weapons.

After several breaks, a few repairs, and looking into future needs, I currently have the following in my arsenal:
one 49in "reach" sword
one 47in longsword
two 36in short-swords
one 34in short-swords
one 8ft "pole-arm"
one 6ft "pole-arm"
Soon to add:
Trident
eight 40in throwing javelins
two 36-48" broad swords with very wide circular cross-guards
one 50" bastard sword with a very wide circular cross-guard
(the very wide circular cross-guards are going to be the size of small shields, the blades are going to be 4in in diameter so the longer one can qualify as great weapon under the Amtgard rules)
I guess I should also note that I have one strap shield made from a snow disk sled thing, and a center punch shield made from a carbon fiber massage table body and laminated closed cell sheet foam. (I have a buddy in my fighting company that works for the manufacturer and gets the rejected bodies. I don't recommend taking apart a massage table for this purpose, they cost too much)
I also have 2 sets of leather armor and a chainmaille shirt. One of the leather sets will get turned into brigandine eventually.

It looks like you have a good compliment.
Two swords, two shields, and an axe... this is more than enough for yourself. You don't have to have an armory.
The weapons I use all depend on the reason I am on the field.
I have some weapons I use for sparring, some for training, some for class battles, and some for battle games.
I rarely use my pole-arm in training, unless I am working on my pole-arm skills, or if my shoulder is sore. I usually train with my 34in short with either a shield or one of my 36in shorts.
I do use my pole-arm in class battles, quests, and battle games.
I use my 47in for sparring and competition and occasionally in a class battle depending on what I am doing.
For typical battle games, more often than not I will use my 49in and my 6ft pole-arm together in a pseudo florentine fashion. I also will switch up with long/short or short/short using my reach and/or the 36" shorts.

I don't think you made anyone feel bad. I think he felt bad he didn't have enough to begin with.
I think we all get into the mode of thinking that we never have enough equipment (and this is may be true), but when we break it all down we usually only need one or two. All the extras are just that... extra.
if you only have one sword, use it. Practice hard and get great with it. Don't worry that you only have one weapon. Most warriors throughout history usually only had between 1-5 weapons and most soldiers limited themselves to 2-3 on the field.
