Leather armor

Postby nedarb906 on Sat May 09, 2009 10:33 pm

I want some good leather armor. There are some great armor construction tips I've found so far, especially from the obsessively detailed and incredibly helpful SCA. I want it to be stylish and practical, preferably without a helmet, though I'll get to that later.

Here's an image of the kind of thing I'd like to build: (guy on the right)

Really good looking. I hope to experiment with it this summer.

As far as wearing armor in games goes, I've heard heavier armor, like metal, is invulnerable, except to bludgeons, and leather takes two hits rather than one. Seems reasonable. But I do not think I would ever wear a helmet, no matter the material. The most useful tool I have at my disposal when fighting is being aware of my surroundings, if my sight, head movement, or hearing were impaired in any way, I would be taken out by those spearmen vultures who seem to just love flanking me. What do y'all think about helmets/ armor?

well, seeing as the rules vary from place to place, don't expect to dash into a place with your +7 banded full plate mail chain studded scale leather armor and be invulnerable.

in general, I would take the rule of thumb that leather gives you an extra hit, metal gives you two, or neither are allowed.

and my personal feelings on the "plate leather" look is "ick"...so I'll just stop now and save your scrolling finger the trouble...
