Sidewinder Strategic Commander

Talk about anything that doesn't fit into the other catergories.

Sidewinder Strategic Commander

For $3, I think I got a killing. Though it took a second to get some stuff to make it work, in the end the tool is certainly nifty and might just make a stay in my normal gaming regimen.

It's not a mouse, it's more like a joystick with a lot of shortcut buttons. It's like PERFECT almost. The only thing that could be improved is the ability to make it detect like a joystick with three axes and then I'd be SET. I'd be playing things like MechWarrior 4 the way it was meant to be played... only with ONE controller instead of joystick + keyboard. Also, Ocarina of Time would be awesome on this thing.

Looks like it'd take awhile to get used to, but it would be a huge time-saver in the long run.

I already have this: http://www.saitek.com/UK/PROD/cyborgmouse.htm notice how it has a profile hat switch? I treat that as a d-pad. I can ALMOST cover anything the Commander doesn't with my mouse so.

Only getting a dead link. :-(

I need to get a new wireless mouse and keyboard for my home setup. I got a new TV and hooked a computer up to it, so I can watch all my downloaded shows on a 55" screen!

The only problem is trying to use a laser mouse on a glass coffee table... not very useful.

Sweet!

By the way, do you want to play some multi-player ZDoom? It's been forever and a day since I played co-op / deathmatch DOOM with anyone.

I'm up for it on a weekend! The only questions are 1. what mods to use, if any, and 2. whether to use ZDoom or Skulltag for the job. Skulltag's client-server model may be more reliable in case one of us runs into a connection problem, but ZDoom's peer model means all we need is a reliable way to connect to each other.

In regards to 1, I'm thinking something like an Alien Vendetta or Hell Revealed mod, with hundreds if not thousands of monsters to slay, or possibly the wonderful Shotgun Frenzy if you're up for some defend the base from monster waves style gameplay.

As I have no idea what those mods are, I will trust you to explain them to me.

Can you give me a place to download them? I'll set them up, and try them out to make sure I'm fluent with them before we play.

Gladly.

Shotgun Frenzy v1.1 (compatible with either ZDoom or Skulltag): http://www.speedyshare.com/918639123.html

wave based "defend the base" combat, complete with quick battle modes and a full blown version where one person gives commander orders RTS style!

On the other hand, I wouldn't worry about getting too good with stuff like Alien Vendetta or Hell Revealed beforehand, since it's nothing new except for the fact there are a lot more demons to kill than usual. They're made for co-op blasting actually!

The Hell Revealed link doesn't work.

Do you have AIM? It'll be easier to set something up using IM.
