AD&D Heroes of the Lance

Postby TheAlmightyGuru on Mon Aug 06, 2007 10:01 am

I'm looking to add the music of Heroes of the Lance, but I'm having a bit of trouble naming the tracks. The NSF rip has 8 tracks.

Here's what I have so far:
1 - Title
2 - Section 1
3 - Section 2
4 - ?
5 - Section 3
6 - ?
7 - Good Ending
8 - ?

The other ones I'm not so sure of, and I don't have the patience to play the game enough to figure them out.

Does anyone here know the game well enough to explain to me where the remaining tunes are played in the game? If you don't have the NSF file, you can get it here: http://www.zophar.net/nsf/addhotf.zip

If you can't play NSF files, I've recorded the music into MP3 here:

6 is the final boss fight with Kisanth.

8 is the Game Over music.

I have no idea on 4. =/

I wonder if it's an unused track...those are common in NES games.

Edit - Wait a minute...Does the game have more than one ending? I think I've only ever gotten the "good" one. Maybe #4 is for the "bad" ending? I'll have to play through it again when I have some time.

Thanks FO. I was expecting that you would know, because of all the reviews online, yours in the only one that actually has some depth to it, other than "this game sucks", thus proving you actually played the game.

You're right about the #6 music being the boss; I found a YouTube video of the ending to verify.

You're right about there being a bad ending as well. I looked at the text in the ROM (interestingly encoded in ASCII) and found the text for the ending without the disks. It says: "Khisanth is dead. But you left her treasure the Disks of Mishakal." I looked for a save game state for the game but I can't find them anywhere.

However, I didn't think there was game over music. When I jumped the whole party into the pit at the beginning they just splat on the ground and I get the failed message. Is there something special you have to do to get the music?

Er, I guess my memory's failed me, but I could've sworn I've heard that "game over" music before.

Gee, now that I think about it, the first time I beat the game I may have done it without getting the disks, and I wonder if THAT'S what that music is for, but then #4 would still be a mystery.

Ah heck, I should stop talking out my ass and actually replay it. It's pretty easy if you just web everything in sight and run.

Okay, I found #4. It's the waterfall theme. There are waterfalls that refill your life and magic when you find them.

Well, I just played through the whole game and got the bad ending and it has no music at all.

My guess is that #8 is an unused track that was supposed to be the Game Over music.

Looks like I'll have to update my page on unused game music...

Heh. You're welcome. I guess the only explanation I have for why track 8 was familiar is because I must've heard it back when I was converting midis from the NSF, but I didn't realize then it was unused because I hadn't played the game in awhile.

Okay, I've added the soundtrack to the VGMPF. I also put your name down under the Vorbis credits, because you helped me get the titles.
